Awake Before Dawn
Life is not easy for a single immigrant mother like Ma. Everyday, her 10-year-old son, Santi, and his little brother Luca work hard at the Opa Locka Flea Market. Things begin to get more complicated when Ma finds out that she’s about to get evicted from her flea market stand and Santi loses the money they need to save it.

Jose Navas, a Nicaraguan-born director based in Miami, is studying Film Directing at UCLA. His acclaimed works include El Balsero (2019), Beat Lingo (2021), and Awake Before Dawn (2023), which air on PBS. His films have been featured at Lincoln Center and Harvard University, with support from Sundance and The Knight Foundation. He was a finalist in Warner Bros’ 2022 Writing and Directing Initiatives.
