Sweet Sour
Farmers in Al-Ahsa face challenges with water scarcity and storms that threaten their lemon trees, which are a valuable source of income. The blooming season starts in winter, leading up to the harvest in summer. As is tradition every year, women prepare “Jameed” following a lengthy celebratory process of squeezing lemons and then placing it on rooftops to dry.

Ahmed Al Hasawi is a Saudi director, video and photography expert, born in Al-Ahsa in 1994. He has worked in production management for several Saudi films and was formerly a football player at Al-Adalah FC. His directorial debut, “Al-Qari,” won third place in the Entertainment Challenges for Best Documentary and the Jury Prize at the Al dakhiliyah Film Festival in Oman. His second film, “Sweet and Sour” (2023), won first place in the MBC Academy’s Creative Journey competition and was nominated for two awards at the 2023 Saudi Film Festival.
