Title:The Neighborhood Storyteller

Marriage will soon be painted with the color of reality for the girls in Jordan's Zaatari refugee camp by the age of 14 or 15. However, Asmaa, a 28-year-old mother of four, believes that girls and women should not give up their dreams or the delight of reading. After fleeing war-torn Syria, she begins a reading group for girls. Soon they start opening up about their experiences in camp, the trauma of war, and their hopes for the future via reading. This heartwarming video shows the girls' confidence growing and imagination blossoming as they ponder on their backstories and dream of a bright future.

Alejandra Alcala

Alejandra Alcala was born in Mexico in 1991. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design, Barcelona. After working as a Creative Strategist in a Communication Agency for the Mobile World Congress, she complimented her professional career with a Postgraduate Degree in Motion Graphics, Post-Production and 3D Design. She practices as a Visual Designer and has evolved into a full-time documentary filmmaker taking on the role as Creative Director and Editor of different short and feature films.
